The two-year full-time Post Graduate Program at IIM Shillong is a fully residential program. It gives students a chance to learn both traditional and modern management skills. IIM Shillong PGP Program Structure
The Post Graduate Program at IIM Shillong is a two-year course divided into six terms. It includes both core and elective subjects. In the first year, students study core courses that build a strong base in management. The second year focuses on elective subjects from different business areas. The program ends with a capstone course that helps students understand how organizations work as a whole.
Each academic year has three terms of about three months each. Students who complete all first-year courses with the required grades move on to the second year. After the first year, every student must complete a two-month internship with a company or organization.

IIM Shillong PhD Course Details
The Doctoral program takes four years to complete. It mainly focuses on research and practical learning. Students should finish the course within these four years. If they cannot complete it on time they may get extra time based on their work progress. The Doctoral Committee can allow an extension of up to two more years.

Eligibility:
Students must possess a post graduation degree after completing a graduation degree (10+2+3 pattern) or a 5-year integrated post graduation degree after Class 12 with at least 55% in graduation and 60% in post graduation. (OR)
Those who have completed a 4-year graduation (10+2+4 pattern) can apply if they have a minimum CGPA of 6.5 or equivalent marks. (OR)
Applicants with professional qualifications like CA, ICWA, or CS and at least 55% marks in B.Com are also eligible. (OR)
SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates get a 5% relaxation in marks.
Candidates must have a valid CAT score (last two years) or a valid score in GATE, GRE, GMAT, UGC-NET, or CSIR UGC-NET in their subject area.
Applicants who already hold a two-year PGDM from any IIM with 60% or above do not need a test score and can apply directly.

IIM Shillong PhD (WP) Program Structure
The PhD for Working Professionals (PhD-WP) is designed to be completed in four years. It includes rigorous coursework that all scholars must complete within this time.
If a candidate cannot finish in four years, they may be allowed to continue based on their progress. After four years, an extension of up to two more years may be given with approval from the Doctoral Committee.
Every scholar must attend an immersion program at the IIM Shillong campus. This program lasts one week and is held twice a year, usually in May and December, at the start of each module.
In total, a research scholar will spend about 2 to 3 weeks each year on campus for contact sessions during their doctoral journey. The schedule will be shared with students roughly one month before each module begins.

Phase I: Course Work
- The first phase of the PhD-WP program is the doctoral coursework. This provides the basic knowledge needed and prepares scholars for their research journey. Completing coursework is mandatory for all research scholars.
- The coursework has three modules (Module I to III) in the first year. The schedule for each module is mentioned in the Academic Calendar but it may change if needed.
- Candidates must achieve an overall CGPA of 2.67 or higher to pass the coursework.
Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE)
- After finishing the coursework, candidates must pass the Comprehensive Qualifying Exam (CQE) to move to the second phase of the program. This exam must be cleared before the start of the second year.
- Once the CQE is passed scholars begin work on their doctoral dissertation. Candidates who do not pass the exam will get one final chance to clear it.
Phase II: Second Year
- In the second year, scholars complete Module IV of their coursework.
- After finishing the coursework, they begin work on their main research topic. This is done under the guidance of the Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC).
- At the start of the second year, scholars must form their TAC as per institute rules. They also start preparing a research proposal with TAC guidance.
- After completing all four modules (Module I to IV), scholars are expected to visit the campus regularly until the draft thesis is ready.
- The draft thesis is presented in an open seminar called the Pre-PhD presentation (Module V). Scholars then revise the thesis based on comments from the TAC and seminar audience.
Phase III: Third Year Onwards
- From the third year, scholars focus on their doctoral dissertation. This work allows them to make original contributions to management or its related areas.
- Scholars are encouraged to present papers at conferences, publish in journals, and contribute to academic research.
- The candidate must prepare and submit the doctoral thesis. After making necessary modifications, the thesis is evaluated.
- Finally, the candidate defends the thesis in front of examiners. Successful defense is required to receive the PhD degree.
IIM Shillong IPM Course Details

In the fifth year of the program students have to complete 60 more credits to finish their BBA+MBA program. They will study advanced subjects and choose courses from the list given by the institute.
