In a significant decision to safeguard the integrity of the medical entrance examinations, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has decided to cancel the results of 22 candidates of the NEET PG exams for using unfair means in various exams between 2021 to 2025.

Why Were the Results Cancelled?

As stated in the NBEMS report, 21 candidates were disqualified for misconduct during the NEET PG examination. One of the candidates Srusti Bommanahalli Rajanna, was disqualified, based on a court order from the Karnataka High Court. The board stated that all 22 candidates’ scorecards and results are now invalid.

NBEMS made it clear that these cancelled results cannot be used for any purpose. This includes job applications, college admissions, registration for postgraduate courses, or any other official use. The board also said it will not be responsible for any action taken based on these invalid results.

Breakdown of Disqualified Candidates by Year

The malpractice cases were spread across five exam sessions. Here’s how the disqualifications were distributed and students can view the detailed by visiting the official website of NBEMS https://natboard.edu.in/index.

What NBEMS Said

NBEMS, in its formal announcement mentioned: “producing the mentioned scorecard or outcome of NEET-PG of the particular session for any purpose, such as by way of use, the registration, or admission to PG courses, is prohibited by law.”

Moreover, the board stated that it absolves itself from any obligation or legal consequences related to the taking up of a job, admission, or registration that may result from the use of the annulled NEET PG results.

NEET PG 2025 Exam Overview

The NEET PG 2025 was conducted in 301 cities and 1,052 test centers on August 3. In total, there were more than 2.42 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam (1,28,116 of these candidates were eligible for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses). But the timetable for NEET PG 2025 counseling is still unknown. The delay in scheduling the counseling is attributed to various court cases, including one filed seeking the release of the complete question paper and the answer key. Several students have voiced their suspicions about the exam's integrity.

FMGE Candidates Also Disqualified

Alongside NEET PG, NBEMS also cancelled the results of 11 candidates who appeared in the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) between 2021 and 2025. These candidates were also found guilty of malpractice.

The FMGE June 2025 session saw a steep drop in pass percentage this year. Only 18.61% of candidates passed, compared to nearly 30% the previous year. Out of 37,207 registered candidates, only 6,707 qualified to practice medicine in India.

NBEMS Stands Firm on Exam Integrity

NBEMS has reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to cheating and malpractice, while indicating that it would follow through with taking vigorous action against anyone who attempts to compromise the integrity of medical examinations. The Examination Ethics Committee participated in the investigations. This work relied on various sophisticated instruments, including CCTV, biometric, and digital surveillance, to identify questionable conduct.

What’s Next?

The NEET PG counselling process will probably start in the 3rd week of October 2025. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has shared this information after consulting the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Students are advised to check for updates only with authentic and official sources of NBEMS, and not look at unofficial sources.

This action by NBEMS shows its commitment to maintaining honesty and transparency in the medical education domain. There are now over 2 lakh students vying for the same number of seats so ensuring a fair exam process is more important than ever.
