Candidates seeking admission to IITs and other institutions must register on the COAP portal, where they can view and accept offers from participating institutes. Meanwhile, those applying to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes) will go through the CCMT counselling process, which follows a similar structure of counselling. The entire process allows the candidates to retain and wait for better offers or accept and finalise their admission into IITs. The Counselling process of GATE 2026 consisted of 10 rounds, giving candidates ample time to choose their preferred colleges. Dates for different rounds of counselling are given below:
For IIT Admissions (COAP Counselling)
Step 1: Visit the COAP portal and register on it.
Step 2: IITs that are participating will review and give admission offers to the candidates.
Step 3: Candidates then would have the option of either Accept & Freeze, Retain & Wait, or Reject & Wait based on their preference.
Step 4: Once the candidate is satisfied with the offered institute, they must confirm admission and complete the institute-specific formalities.
For NIT, IIIT, and GFTI Admissions (CCMT Counselling)
Step 1: Register on the CCMT portal.
Step 2: Select the preferred institutes and courses.
Step 3: Seats will be allotted based on the score of GATE 2025, preferences.
Step 4: If a candidate wants to accept the allotted seat, he must pay the required fee.
Step 5: Submit the required documents.
Step 6: To complete admission formalities, visit the allotted institute.
