FMGE 2026 Exam Overview: The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a National-Level Licensing Examination organized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), which is held in December and June. This exam is mainly for Indian students who have completed their MBBS degree from a foreign medical college but want to practice in India. The application forms will tentatively be available from the 2nd week of March 2026; the last date to apply will be the 1st week of April 2026. The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) exam is expected to be scheduled for the 4th week of June 2026 through the online mode (CBT), and the admit card will be available from the 1st week of June 2026.

Students who have passed their medical degree from abroad but want to practice in India are required to take the FMGE 2026 Exam, which is conducted in two sessions: June and December. The application process for the June session will start tentatively from the 2nd week of March 2026, and the last date to apply will be the 1st week of April 2026.  Students could download their admit cards a few days before the exam by logging in to the official website, www.natboard.edu.in, using their login credentials.

The FMGE 2026 exam will be held in the 4th week of June 2026, and the results are expected to be announced in the last week of June or the first week of July 2026. To qualify for this screening test, candidates must score at least 150 marks. Once they qualify, they need to apply for provisional registration with the National Medical Council (NMC). After completing an internship at a hospital or medical college, they can apply for permanent registration with the NMC or their State Medical Council to begin practicing medicine in India.

FMGE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • The applying candidate needs to be an Indian or an Overseas Citizen of India.

  • The candidate must have a medical degree approved by the Indian Embassy and recognized for practicing medicine in the country.

  • The degree must be from a recognized medical college listed in the WHO Directory or approved by the country's official medical body.

  • If required, the candidate must have an "Eligibility Certificate" from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

  • The candidate must have passed their final medical exam and received the result before 30 April 2026 for that FMGE session.

The FMGE 2026 application form will be available from the 2nd week of March 2026, on the official website of the National Board of Examinations. Candidates who wish to appear for the exam have to complete and submit the application form before the deadline, which is expected to be 1st week of April 2026. The FMGE exam started in 2002, so candidates who finished their medical degree on or before March 15, 2002, don’t need to take the exam. 

Students who have passed their medicine degree after 2002 must register for this exam. The FMGE 2026 registration process includes a few important steps that candidates must follow. It starts with entering personal details to complete the registration. After that, candidates need to fill out the full application form, upload required documents like the MBBS Degree, internship certificate, and other required documents, and in last is the payment of the application fee. The application fee is INR 7080 for all candidates, regardless of their category. Candidates can make the payment through various methods, including debit card, credit card, UPI, or net banking.

FMGE 2026 Exam Pattern And Marking Scheme 

The FMGE exam consists of 300 multiple-choice questions and is conducted online, as a computer-based test. The questions are based on the MBBS syllabus, covering various subjects including clinical, pre-clinical, and para-clinical topics. Each correct answer will be given 1 mark, and there are no negative marks for incorrect answers. This means that even if you choose the wrong answer, you won’t lose any marks.

Health evaluation, environmental health, health education, nutrition, epidemiology, and health systems. Key areas of focus include communicable and non-communicable diseases, demography, reproductive and child health, and disaster management.

FMGE 2026 Admit Card

The FMGE 2026 admit cards will be released by the National Board of Examinations tentatively in the 1st week of June 2026. Candidates could download their admit cards from the official NBEMS website by logging in with their application number and password.  Students need to print a copy of the admit card and carry it to the exam centre, along with any other required documents. Without the admit card, candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall under any circumstances. Make sure to download and keep the admit card safe and well before the exam day.

FMGE 2026 Answer Key

The FMGE 2026 Answer Key will be released by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in the last week of June 2026, after the exam. This answer key allows candidates to check their answers and calculate total marks before the final results are announced. It’s a useful tool for students to understand how they performed in the exam.

Candidates could access the answer key by logging into the official NBE website with their application number and password. Keep in mind that the exact date of release is tentative, and it might change, so it’s a good idea to keep checking the website for updates.

FMGE 2026 Result

The FMGE 2026 results will be declared by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on their official website on the 4th week of June 2026. Candidates can check their results by visiting www.natboard.edu.in by logging in through their application ID and password. The result will be in PDF format, which will include the candidate's scores and qualifying status. Those who qualify will be able to get their pass certificates after completing the verification process.
