National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal is one of the top engineering institutes of Southern India, located in Mangalore. It was established in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). The institute was renamed as National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002.
