The Madras School of Economics offer different courses like MA in economics, integrated masters, phd in economics and BA Hons in economics. There are various specialisations offered under the postgraduate programs, like general economics, financial economics, applied quantitative finance, actuarial economics, environmental economics, finance, research and business analytics, data science, and economics.
To pursue a UG course, a general category student should have qualified in their class 12th with 65% of marks. The students belonging to OBC and SC/ST/PWD should score a minimum 60% and 55% marks to become eligible for admission in the MSE. The students should also have mathematics in their 12th class as a compulsory subject.
The students who want to apply for admission to the master's programs should have an undergraduate degree, with at least 55% marks for general category students. The students who are from the OBC category should score 50% of marks, and the students belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories should score 45% of marks. Along with this, the students should also have studied mathematics or mathematical economics at the plus two level or at the bachelor's level.
To be eligible for pursuing a doctoral program in MSE, the student must have a postgraduate degree in the field of economics, finance, management sciences or STEM. The student should have scored 55% marks in their master's degree, although 5% relaxation would be given to students who belong to reserved categories like OBC/SC/ST/PWD. The students should also have a valid score of UGC-NET, UGC-JRF or GATE. In case the students do not have any of these entrance exam scores, then they would be required to give the PhD entrance exam of the institute one day before the interview.
The students who want to apply for the BA Hons in economics should complete their class 12th from a recognised board. The students who want to apply for admission in this courses should score 65% marks to be eligible for admission in the MSE. The students who are from the OBC category should score at least 60% marks, and students who are from SC/ST/PWD should score 50% marks. The students who are appearing for their Class 12th exam can also apply to the BA Hons in Economics program in MSE. The student should have studied mathematics in class 12th to apply for this program.
The fee for pursuing this program is INR 66,000, and the application fee is INR 1200 for the general category and INR 1000 for the SC/ST category.
MSE offers phd program in economics at both full-time and part-time levels. The students willing to apply to this program should have completed their master's degree in the discipline of economics, finance, management sciences or STEM from an approved institution. The students should have 55% marks in their master's degree and 50% marks for OBC/ST/SC/PWD categories. In addition to that, the students should also have a valid score of UGC-JRF, UGC-NET, or GATE in economics. Otherwise, the student would be required to take the MSEET entrance exam
To apply for the master's program in MSE, students should have a graduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks if belonging to the general category. 50% marks in the minimum eligibility for students belonging to the OBC category and 45% for students belonging to the ST/SC/PWD category. Students should also have studied mathematics in 12th class or mathematical economics in their bachelor's degree.
The cost of pursuing this course is around INR 1,12,875. The application fee is INR 1200 for the general category students and INR 1000 for SC/ST students.
MSE offers a PGDM program in two specialisations called research & business analytics and finance. To apply for this program, the student should score 55% marks in their undergraduate level and 60% marks in class 10th and 12th. The undergraduate degree should be done from a recognised university. The student should have studied mathematics in class 12th grade. The scores of the management entrance exam, like CAT/XAT/MAT/GMAT, are also necessary.
The student would have to pay the INR 12,00,000 as the total fee for pursuing this program.
