IIT Dhanbad offers a wide range of academic programs under the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral degrees. The flagship B.Tech program is offered in various specialisations such as Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining, Petroleum, Civil and Chemical Engineering.
Admission to these programs is based on performance in the JEE (Advanced) examination, and students who qualify then undergo the counselling process in JoSAA. Besides this, IIT Dhanbad also runs an Integrated B.Tech M.Tech dual degree program that combines both undergraduate and graduate education, with a duration of five years.
The postgraduate M.Tech program has a wide range of specialisations. The admission is based on the valid GATE score and on departmental tests or interviews. In comparison, M.Sc courses focused on science and applied courses like geology and mining depend on the admission standards, which include the IIT JAM test. The MBA course requires the candidate to provide CAT scores, and then, further selection processes are conducted.
At the Doctoral level, Ph.D. programs are available across Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, and Management, with selection based on research aptitude, written tests, interviews, and academic background.
Admission to IIT Dhanbad programs is entrance-based and varies by course. For B.Tech and Integrated B.Tech–M.Tech, candidates must qualify for JEE Advanced, followed by JoSAA counselling. M.Tech admissions require a valid GATE score and registration through COAP. M.Sc and Integrated M.Sc–M.Tech aspirants must clear the IIT JAM, followed by JOAPS counselling. MA admissions are based on an institute-level entrance test and interview, while MBA applicants need a valid CAT score and PI.
