Among the various courses, the program makes the students familiar with the core areas of management, the students get leadership and analytical skills and also, by way of projects, internships, and workshops, they get hands- on experience.
The PGPBM classes are conducted at Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) in this course so as to meet the professional commitments of the working professionals. In the first year, classes are held every weekend on Saturdays and Sundays from timing schedules: 1:30 PM to 9:00 PM. In the second year, depending on elective choices, sessions can also be scheduled in the mornings on weekends. Students with Saturday morning work commitments has the option to select the electives that are scheduled in the afternoon and evening (1:30 PM – 9:00 PM) timelines.

The Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM) is a specialised course for students focused to carry out higher level studies in management. It not only trains students through essential research methods but also guides them on how to perform innovation in management. This research program provides students with the skills needed for careers in teaching, research, or a combo of both, along with other professional roles.
The curriculum of DPM at Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli is designed in such a way as to give students the necessary training to excel in academic work and be productive contributors for management-related research. Students are allowed to take up a specialisation in any one of the different areas of management. Every student in the DPM program is provided with full financial support for a maximum period of four years during the course of their studies.

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM), candidates should possess any one of the following:
A Master's degree in any subject with not less than 60% of the marks or an equivalent grade point.

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli students are required to do a summer research project during the timeline of their respective doctoral studies.
In addition to the classroom courses, each student prepares a ‘Research Paper’ during the two-month summer break between his 1st Year & 2nd Year and continues to work on the paper during the second year. Each student works with a designated research guide for this component of the coursework.
Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE): To advance further on their research journeys, students are required to clear their CQEs conducted by their respective areas of specialization.

Students who hold a PGDM from any IIM or a PGPBM will be exempt from the PGPM courses offered in year one, provided the student has a CGPA of 2.55/4.33 or equivalent and has obtained the diploma within 5 years from the year of admission to the DPM program.
Other students who have an MBA/equivalent from other institutes/universities may apply for course-wise waivers for PGPM Courses. They will be given waivers subject to successfully clearing an examination and viva to be conducted by the respective course instructor(s). Those who have got course waivers in basic courses have the option to start the DPM at Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli with advanced courses.

The Executive Doctoral Programme in Management (EDPM) is a specialised course for working professionals focused to carry out higher level studies in management.
