Second-Year:

vance from the first phase, participants must pass the Area Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE), enabling progression to the second phase focused on thesis research under a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) of three faculty members, with the Chair from the chosen area.

From the second year until draft thesis submission, regular campus visits are required: at least four days per quarter, though this can be consolidated into one semesterly visit by participant/RAC agreement.

Post-CQE, participants begin developing the main PhD thesis research problem in the second year.

They must submit RAC Chair-forwarded progress reports during each term's registration.

Third Year:

In the third year and beyond, participants must present an Open Proposal Seminar on their research problem and aim to present a paper at a conference or achieve at least one publication. Following RAC approval of the draft thesis, participants deliver a pre-submission seminar in an open forum. Approximately, the revision of the thesis occurs with the help of the feedback provided by the RAC and the attendance of the seminar. The draft can be given out for external evaluation.
