GIET University Gunupur, also known as Gandhi Institute of Engineering & Technology, was established in the year 1997 by “Vidya Bharati Educational Trust,” Gunupur, Odisha, India. Recognised by the UGC, GIET University stands out as one of the top universities in Odisha. GIET University Admission Eligibility Criteria 2026
GIET University offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with varying academic and entrance-based eligibility criteria. GIET University Admission is primarily done through the GIETEE 2026 entrance exam or recognised national/state-level tests.
To apply for a B.Tech program, candidates must have a valid JEE Main, OJEE or GIETEE scores and have completed 10+2 with at least 45% aggregate marks in Physics and Math. Admission to professional UG courses such as BCA, BBA and B.Sc. Agriculture is usually based on merit or the GIETEE entrance exam, which requires a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12.
At the postgraduate level, M.Tech candidates must have a relevant B.Tech degree with at least 50% aggregate marks. Students must have been selected through GATE OJEE (PGAT) or GIETEE score. Admission to MBA, MCA and M.A. programs is largely based on merit, depending on the candidate's performance in the qualifying bachelor's degree. In most of the programmes, reserved category candidates are given a relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks requirement.

GIET University Scholarship
The University offers scholarships to various categories of students to motivate and promote deserving underprivileged students to pursue higher education. This includes students with high marks who have secured admission in various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, financially weak students and those eligible for government schemes (e.g., Central Sector, Odisha State Scholarships).
For postgraduate studies, PhD and M.Tech scholars can receive monthly stipends of INR 25,000 and INR 12,500, respectively. Along with free hostel accommodation in exchange for departmental research work. UG programs like B.Tech are primarily supported through the Board of Governance and GIETU Merit scholarships. This scholarship offers a tuition fee waiver ranging from INR 50,000 to INR 1 Lakh based on good rank in GIETEE JEE Mains or top performance in State and National Board.
The university also facilitates AICTE Pragati and Saksham schemes. This is providing financial aid specifically for female students and specially-abled individuals with family incomes below INR 8 lakh. Furthermore, the Employee Ward Scholarship offers one-time fee concessions up to INR 1 lakh based on the parent's years of service. Sponsored Scholarships from state and central governments are available for SC, ST, OBC and BPL candidates. Specialized waivers are also reserved for students from Odisha with high academic percentages and for recognized athletes at the state, national or international levels.

Institutional Status: From an AICTE-approved institution 1997, it became a full-fledged university under the Odisha Legislative Assembly Act in 2018 and the UGC Act of 1956 in 2019.
