NPTEL Awareness Workshop at VGU with IITB
Vivekanand Global University(VGU), Jaipur, has organised a one-day NPTEL Awareness workshop on January 31, 2026, at the Technology Block auditorium. This workshop has taken place in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). The main objective of this workshop was to ensure awareness among the students and the faculty members about the national-level online courses under the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) and also to highlight the quality digital education opportunities for them.
The event started with the registration process, in which all participants registered for their participation. After this, the VIPs arrived at the workshop. The workshop was then formally inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp and the performance of the vigil entitled Saraswati Vandana. At this event, the guests of honour were acknowledged, and the workshop kit was officially released. Ms Bharti Sakpal was presented with an award by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) N.D. Mathur, while Ms. Nisha Thakur was presented with an award by the Pro-President, Professor (Dr.) D.V.S. Bhagavanulu.
In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) N.D. Mathur reiterated the need for NPTEL to benefit students who wish to study from distinguished academic faculty throughout India and receive a world-class education. The University Patron, Mr. M.R. Bagaria, and Pro-President Prof.(Dr.) D.V.S. Bhagavanulu emphasised the need for digital education, skills development, and platforms such as NPTEL in today's academic environment.
In his special address, Prof. Sridhar Iyer, from the IIT Bombay Centre for Educational Technology, explained in detail about NPTEL, describing how valuable it is now and how much it could be in terms of future opportunities. Also, Ms Bharti Sakpal, Senior Project Officer, NPTEL, made a presentation about NPTEL Online Courses (NOC) (Course schedules, Certifications, Credit Transfer, and Others) during the first technical session.
The second session was focused on Local Chapters, SPOC operations, and other areas related to NPTEL implementation so that participants received valuable, practical information and resources related to maximising their use of the program. Participants were engaged during this time by being able to ask questions via an interactive Question and answer, and get their questions clarified. Also, Dr Arvind Singh, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), VGU, discussed how NPTEL was used within the university and what his hopes were for distance and online education in the future. At the end of the program, Dr. Yogendra Pal, Head of Education Technology, CDOE, VGU, expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. Dr. Pal extended his appreciation to all concerning guests, keynote speakers, planning committee members, and all participants for their presence, contributions, and dedication to the overall success of the workshop. A group photograph was formally concluded in the workshop, it captured some of the memorable moments and experiences that were shared among participants during the workshop. The group then moved to a networking lunch where participants had the opportunity to meet, share ideas, and connect with one another in an informal setting.
Overall, students, faculty members, and research scholars had a great experience at the workshop, which was satisfying, as well as very informative to all, and provided an enhanced understanding of NPTEL initiatives. It also reinforced Vivekananda Global University's dedication to continuing to support digital learning, promote academic excellence, and foster innovation within higher education among the students.
