IIM Udaipur to Launch Hindi-Medium BBA in 2026 Amid Faculty Concerns Over Content and Placements.webp

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Udaipur will launch a Bachelor's degree program starting from the academic year 2026-27 in Hindi, thereby setting a new and inclusive trend in management education. This project is in line with the policy of the central government to encourage higher education in Indian regional languages. It mainly targets the students coming from Hindi-medium schools, who confront difficulties in accessing the management courses in the English language only.

IIM Udaipur: BBA Programme Details and Delivery Mode

This new BBA programme will be conducted online over four years, giving students the choice to study either in Hindi or English. The curriculum features 40 courses, each requiring 60 hours of learning. The learning method will be blended: 30 hours per course will be video lectures by faculty, and the other 30 hours will be live online classes taught by IIM Udaipur’s faculty as well as guest lecturers from other institutions. Both video sessions and live classes will use a mixture of Hindi and English, making the programme accessible to a wider group of learners.

Challenges in Content and Teaching

Despite the progressive nature of this move, it has sparked concerns among faculty members and education analysts:

  • There are no standard management textbooks in Hindi at present, and thus the students may have to face difficulties in locating quality study materials in the language of their choice.

  • A majority of the professors at IIMs and similar institutes have been teaching in English and may not have the expertise to instruct in Hindi on the complex management subjects, which can, in turn, affect the quality of instruction.

  • The question mark is on the programme’s attractiveness to the employers. Faculty and experts are afraid that unless the course can provide excellent job placements, it will not be able to attract students or be recognized in the job market.

Impact and Vision for the Future

Nonetheless, the decision taken by IIM Udaipur to introduce a BBA course in Hindi medium has been a historical one. It will be the very first Indian business school that will teach a complete BBA course in an Indian language. This might be the turning point for many students from Hindi-speaking families who have struggled to get into management education due to language problems. It is a move toward higher education that is inclusive and better adapted to the different groups of students in India.

The future success of this programme will be primarily dependent on the challenges being met in the areas of course content development, Hindi faculty instruction and graduate placement opportunities.
