Vel Tech University Overview
Vel Tech University was founded in 1997 by Col. Prof. Vel Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan. It is accredited with an ‘A++’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognized as a Category-1 Deemed to be University by the UGC. The university also has 12B status, which allows it to receive more research grants.
The university has 21 undergraduate and 17 postgraduate programs along with PhD courses in Engineering, Technology, Management, Arts, Science and Law. Around 14,000 students and 753 PhD scholars are guided by 805 faculty members. Six undergraduate engineering programs and one postgraduate program are accredited by NBA under Tier-I.
Students learn from industry experts and international professors. Every year, about 15% of graduates go abroad for higher studies, while others secure placements in top IT and core companies. Many students also complete internships in India and abroad.
The university has global partnerships with over 600 institutions across 42 countries and more than 196 MoUs. It is ranked in Times Higher Education and QS Asia Rankings. It also received the ISTE National Award for Best Technical University in 2023.
According to the latest NIRF India Rankings 2025 the university secured 87th Rank in Engineering, Band 101–150 in University category and Band II (11–50) in Innovation. It has also been placed among the Top 100 in Engineering since 2017, showing consistent performance.
The 66.75-acre campus includes modern facilities such as hostels, sports complexes, libraries, advanced labs, conference halls, auditoriums, research parks, smart classrooms, medical centers, canteens, banks, Wi-Fi, transport, 24×7 power backup, water and sewage plants and an international guest house.

Vel Tech University Admission Overview 2026
Chennai Vel Tech University is currently accepting applications for admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. Admissions are ongoing and students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online or offline according to their interest.
B.Tech students must pay an online application fee of INR 950. Students can pay via net banking, credit card, debit card, UPI, Paytm postpaid, or wallet. Students who prefer the offline method can apply by submitting a demand draft of INR 950. The application fee for most of the UG programs is INR 400. Vel Tech University Admission Eligibility Criteria 2026
The university offers programs in Engineering, Management, Science, Arts, Law and Technology. Students must meet specific requirements for its undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs.
B.Tech (VTUEEE) - Students should have passed Class 12 (or equivalent). Students who are going to complete their class12 can also apply.
Law Programs - Students must have passed 12th grade. Preference is given to CLAT-2022 or LSAT-India 2022 qualifiers with 45% minimum.
MBA - Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate.
MSc - BSc with minimum 50% in relevant subjects.
MA - Domestic: BA English with 50% minimum. International: 50% minimum in qualifying exams with required subjects.
M.Tech - BE/B.Tech in relevant specialisation.
PhD Programs – Applicants need to hold postgraduate degree with the required subject with minimum 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer/Differently-Abled).

Vel Tech Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarship
The Vel Tech Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarship helps talented students who join B.Tech programs at Vel Tech University. The scholarship is given based on students’ 12th board exam marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or their VTUEEE rank. It is available only for B.Tech courses and is based completely on merit. If students eligible for both scholarships through board marks and VTUEEE rank will get the larger scholarship. Students must score at least 60% in MPC to apply.
