The placement performance of Sikkim Manipal University through its Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) mainly illustrates steady figures along with sustained industry engagement in 2025. The campus recruitment, student internships, and pre-placement training that aim to improve student employability in various streams are managed by the Training, Placement and Industry Cell.
The total placement percentage was around 79% in 2025, whereas it was almost 86% in 2024. Still, the university has regularly kept its placement percentage above 75%, which is indicative of a stable level of recruiter participation even in times of market fluctuations. At the same time, the maximum salary package has been stable at INR 54 LPA for two years in a row, which is a signal of the continuation of corporate trust and the availability of premium jobs for the best students.
There was a high level of stability in the average salary which was only a very slight variation from the previous year at INR 6.36 LPA in 2025. The trend in salary over the years shows a slow gradual increase along with general stability. The sectors that contributed to placements the most were IT Products and Services with a share of 57%, followed by Core Engineering (21%), Network and Communication (16%), and the rest (6%). Therefore, the distribution of technology-driven roles are in high demand and at the same time there are still opportunities in the core domains that are reflective of the market.
Internship engagement was raised considerably as revealed from the 403 offers in 2025 as compared to 351 earlier, this also reflected deeper recruiter involvement. Major recruiters have been TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Tech Mahindra. Extensive support services including aptitude training, mock interviews, resume building, and alumni networking were instrumental in strengthening overall placement outcomes.
Sikkim Manipal University is committed to helping students who have shown merit, come from economically weaker sections, socially disadvantaged groups, and specially-abled individuals by offering them scholarships and fee waivers for their undergraduate and graduate programmes. The scholarships are aimed at recognizing and rewarding students' academic achievements, making higher education more accessible, and bringing in student groups from diverse backgrounds.
The university mainly offers merit scholarships to B.Tech students on the basis of their academic record and national entrance exam results and provides general scholarships for the other UG and PG programmes. Besides that, SMU has special scholarships for differently-abled students, social initiative female students, armed forces martyrs' wards, state toppers, sports achievers, overseas students, etc.
SMU scholarships are mostly given as a percentage reduction in the tuition fee and are valid for the entire course duration, provided that academic performance (e.g., achieving a certain CGPA and no backlogs) and other criteria are met. A student can only use one scholarship scheme at a time and must present the necessary documents either at the time of admission or in the next term at the latest if requested.
