Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology is a government-established institute for higher education and research. It was set up by the Government of India and has been recognised as an Institution of National Importance under the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act, 2007. The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology RGIPT ranked 78 in the engineering category by NIRF.
The institute was jointly promoted by six major public sector oil and gas companies, such as ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL, and HPCL, along with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology RGIPT also collaborates with top international universities and institutions that specialise in petroleum and energy technology.
The institute offers B.Tech, Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), and M.Tech programs in different branches of engineering, as well as an MBA program. It also offers PhD programs in science, engineering, humanities, and management fields.

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology RGIPT provides various UG, PG, Diploma, and PhD courses with particular eligibility for the 2025 session:
To get admission in UG, candidates must have qualified in JEE (Advanced) or JEE (Main) and should have scored at least 80% in Class 12 or a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in Class 12 for JEE (Advanced) applicants.
For admission to PG courses, candidates must have completed their graduation with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST) and possess a valid GATE score.
The eligibility for the MBA and MBA in Business Analytics requires a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in a bachelor’s degree with a valid score of CAT, MAT, XAT, or GMAT.
For admission to the PhD program, candidates should have a minimum of 75% marks in a bachelor’s degree and 60% marks in a master’s degree.
To get admission to the Integrated Diploma and Degree course, the candidate should have passed the HSLC or class 10th with at least 40% marks (General), 35% marks (SC), and 33% (ST).

It is given from the first year and offers INR 3,000 per month for nine months.
