National Law University Odisha was established in 2009 under the National Law University Odisha Act, 2008 (Act 4 of 2008), passed by the Odisha State Legislature. National Law University Odisha has been recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). Among 267 Institutions in India, NULO secures the 15th rank in the "Law Category" of NIRF 2025. The university started its academic activities in 2009. With more than 16 years of experience, National Law University Odisha is offering more than Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Certificate, as well as Diploma Programs like BA LLB, BA LLB (Hons), LLM, Certificate Course on Cyber Law and cybersecurity and more. Since its inception, more than 1000 students have graduated from NULO Cuttack.
National Law University Odisha campus is spread over an area of 50 acres, which has multiple facilities, like football and cricket grounds, a thousand-seater auditorium/amphitheatre, a food court, a gym, and airy lecture halls, including LCD projectors, dedicated sound systems, and electronic blackboards. Apart from campus facilities, a well-maintained library will be ready soon. Along with that, NULO provides scholarship schemes to the students with financial aid from the 2nd year onwards.

Candidates who are interested in pursuing higher education from the National Law University Odisha Cuttack Odisha can apply for any Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate program, as the application forms for the current year were released on 1 August 2025, and the last date for filling the application forms will be 31 October 2025. The admissions in all the UG programs at National Law University Odisha Cuttack are based on the marks obtained in the entrance exam. For the BA LLB and BBA LLB programs, candidates are required to appear for the CLAT Examination, whereas National Law University Odisha Cuttack conducts the NLUO All India Entrance Test (NAIET) for the LLB Program. For admission to the Undergraduate courses offered at NLUO, candidates are required to appear for the entrance examination, like NAIET or CLAT and secure the required marks.
Along with the entrance exams, candidates need to complete their 12th or equivalent examination from the state of Odisha and secure at least 60% marks from any recognised College/University in the state of Odisha.
For admission to the Postgraduate courses, candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree from a well-recognised University with 50% of marks (45% for reserved categories).
Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree from a well-recognised University can apply for the PhD programs, and along with that, candidates also need to qualify for the PhD entrance examination conducted by the University.

Earning while Learning: In this scheme, the University allows the candidates to work on the research projects undertaken by the official authorities of NLUO, as well students can also serve in the library of the University from time to time.
Conversion Policy (upon Vacant Seats during the Admission Process): In this scheme, the seats allotted by the University that are unfilled or available against the Seats reserved will be assigned to other students from different categories. For example, the unfilled seats for SC candidates will be assigned to Scheduled Tribe candidates.
