Admission to NIFT Kolkata requires students to clear the NIFT Entrance Exam, which is an online test conducted across India. Depending on the chosen course, students may also need to appear for a Situation Test or a Personal Interview. For B.Des programs, students take two tests: the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT). Other courses only require the GAT. Performance in these exams determines admission, and seats are allotted through NIFT Counselling.
NIFT Kolkata provides students with many opportunities to work in fashion, design, and apparel companies. Students do internships before finishing their courses. During internships, companies watch how students work, and some students get Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). Famous companies like PUMA, AJIO, Reliance, ACE Turtle, and ITC visit NIFT to hire students, and some also hire online. In 2022, B.F.Tech students earned INR 3.5 LPA to INR 4 LPA, and Fashion Communication students earned up to INR 8.2 LPA. These placements help students start their careers and work with top fashion and design companies.
NIFT Kolkata helps students who need financial support to continue their studies. Every year, the institute uses money from the NIFT Development Fund to assist students. It has a special scheme called the Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance. This scheme gives fee discounts to students from low-income families. The help depends on their parents’ income. Many students have already benefited from this support. Top fashion companies also encourage students through awards and scholarships. Brands like ITC and HomeShop18 reward students who do well in their studies. These prizes motivate students to work hard and stay focused from their first year.
