Himachal Pradesh National Law University Shimla, is one of the best places for studying law in India and was established by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University Act in September 2016. The university started functioning on 5th October 2016. HPNLU is part of the Consortium of National Law Universities. Admission to the UG is based on CLAT score, along with the candidate having passed class 12th with at least 50% grade. Completion of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field is mandatory for PG admission. For the Ph.D program in law university conducts its own national-level test.
Furthermore, the fees for the respective programs range from INR 35,000 to INR 1,62,000 per annum. While applying for admission, students must pay an admission fee of INR 6,750 for UG and INR 7,500 for Graduation programs, and INR 7,000 (Full Time) & INR 8,000 (Part Time) for PhD programs.

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University Shimla, provides various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral courses with particular eligibility for the 2025 session.
For B.A./B.B.A LL.B (Hons.), students must have passed Class 12th from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade (45% marks for SC/ST candidates).
Candidates should have LL.B. degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST candidates) for post-graduation.
Admission is based on the merit of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
To get admission to the MBA course, candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates). Students in the final year of graduation are also eligible to apply.
The eligibility for admission to the PG Diploma is a graduate degree in law or a related field with at least 50% marks from a recognised Indian or foreign university approved under Indian law.
For admission to the PhD in Law program, a NET score is required.
Himachal Pradesh National Law University has a dedicated placement cell known as the Placement Assistance Cell, which consists of the Placement and Internship Committee. The placement cell is bridging the gap between the industry and the students. It mainly works on placement and internship assistance. Through this, they were preparing the students for real-world experience.
Along with this, the PAC shall perform the function of contacting various organisations for the purpose of securing an internship and placement. They also conduct pre-placement talks and day zero interview skills sessions.
The registered student of Himachal Pradesh National Law University Shimla, shall have to complete a minimum of 20 weeks of internship during the five-year integrated course. The placement drive shall be organised for the placement of students of five-year integrated courses and LL.M. The placement drive shall be held between March and June of every calendar year. The recruitment process included Pre-Placement Talks, Pre-Interview Screening, Final Interview, and Final Intimation of Offer.

A scholarship is financial aid for students who were not able to mobilise funds. For the purpose of providing help to students for their higher studies, the university has a Student Scholarship Cell. Most of the scholarships are based on merit-cum-means scholarships for deserving students whose parents’ income does not exceed INR 6,00,000 per annum.
The Fee Scholarship Program is for economically underprivileged students in India by enabling them to complete their higher education. The scholarship amount is INR 50,000 annually until the course is completed. Beyond scholarship, scholars get skill training and mentoring to help them become job-ready.
