Sardar Bhagwan Singh (SBS) University, Balawala, Dehradun, enthusiastically celebrated the International Yoga Day at an event organised as part of the ongoing camp under the scheme of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB). The programme was organised by SBS University and the 11 UK Battalion NCC, Dehradun.
This celebration was attended by nearly 600 people, including NCC cadets, officers, faculty, and university staff. It was one of the biggest events of the EBSB Camp. It is a well-known fact that the International Yoga Day celebrates the importance of yoga in the life of an individual. It helps us keep our body healthy, flexible and concentrated while improving our mental condition and emotional balance. Thus, this day was spent with the aim of understanding the advantages of yoga and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
The event started with the yoga session conducted by the famous yoga instructor Shri Susheel Bhatt and his colleagues from Rudransh Yogashala. People were taught different poses, breathing exercises, stretching, and meditation. Instructors explained the importance of yoga exercises in our daily lives.
In the course of the event, the university campus provided a very impressive sight. Lines of NCC cadets were doing yoga postures with impeccable coordination and created an impression of discipline and positivity. Active participation of the young cadets was an example of dedication, as well as a sign of commitment towards the development of focus, determination and self-control that are essential to do yoga.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, the organisers highlighted that yoga is now considered a global language of wellness. Developed in India thousands of years ago, yoga is now being practised by millions of people around the globe. International Yoga Day is aimed at reminding people about this heritage and inspiring them to follow the practices that lead to a balanced and healthy way of living.
For the NCC cadets participating in the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Camp, the event became a chance to realise what role yoga plays in their personal development and growth. In particular, cadets discovered how beneficial the practice of yoga could be for coping with stress, improving mental awareness and increasing one's efficiency.
Moreover, this event also addressed the goals of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat movement, as its main aim is to promote national integration and build awareness and cultural understanding among the young generation of India. In this regard, such a programme brought people of diverse backgrounds together to engage in one joint activity in order to convey ideas of unity, respect and shared responsibility. Thus, the fusion of yoga with the EBSB project demonstrates the role that traditional Indian practices may play in forming strong social links and promoting national identity.
Over the years, SBS University has always been striving to involve students in various activities that can help in their overall development as individuals. In addition to academic achievements, the institution attaches great importance to the aspects of character formation, leadership skills development, community involvement and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, events like International Yoga Day enable students to adopt useful habits that can help in maintaining well-being during the whole life period.
As for the participants' reactions, the majority of them were very enthusiastic about attending the session. They found yoga inspiring and helpful because it made them realise the importance of physical and psychological well-being.
The university management thanked Shri Susheel Bhatt and the Rudransh Yogashala team for organising a session which proved to be informative and interesting. Appreciation was also conveyed to the officers and the staff members of 11 UK Battalion NCC for their invaluable cooperation and help in making the occasion a success. Specific appreciation was conveyed to the NCC cadets, faculty members, and the staff whose active involvement helped make the program successful. The dedication and zeal with which they had participated made the celebration a more fulfilling experience than just a ritualistic ceremony.
A pledge was taken by all present at the occasion to practice yoga as part of their everyday lives and persuade others too to adopt good habits.
A successful organisation of International Yoga Day at SBS University demonstrated the commitment of the university towards ensuring the good health and well-being of its students. It can be seen from the fact that by blending yoga practices with the core values of the EBSB camp, SBS University has been able to organise a programme that highlights the importance of physical fitness. And while the participants were leaving after the activity, they were taking away with them a very significant message, the message that regular small exercises like yoga can make a difference in one’s life and society as a whole.
