On September 5, 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has activated the registration link of the Joint Admission Test for Master’s (IIT JAM) 2026 today. The national level entrance exam is crucial for the candidates who wish to enter postgraduate programmes (MSc, MSc-PhD, dual degree and integrated PhD) in 22 IITs and IISc.

For the academic year 2026–27, a total of 3,000 plus seats are offered, so the interested candidates should apply on or before the last date, October 12, 2025, in the official web portal of JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS).

Required Documents for JAM 2026 Registration 

To apply for IIT JAM, candidates must upload these documents, including:

  • A Class 10 (SSC) marksheet or certificate.

  • A recent, passport-sized photograph in colour, with a white or light background, in JPEG/JPG format (50 kB to 200 kB).

  • A scanned signature in black or dark blue ink on white paper, uploaded in JPEG/JPG format (50 kB to 150 kB).

  • Valid category certificates (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST) issued after April 1, 2025. PwD candidates must provide valid disability certificates in accordance with the guidelines.

Application Process For JAM 2026

Steps to Submit an Application for IIT JAM 2026:

Step 1: Registration:

  • Visit the official website: jam2026.iitb.ac.in.

  • Ensure cookies are enabled on your device to remember your login information.

  • Fill in your details (name, email, mobile number) and create a password to register.

Step 2: Login

  • After registration, you will receive an enrolment ID.

  • An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number for login.

Step 3: Complete Application Form

  • Log in using your enrolment ID and OTP.

  • Fill out the application form, ensuring all required fields are completed.

Step 4: Upload Required Documents:

  • Upload the necessary documents, including your Class 10 marksheet, passport-sized photograph, scanned signature, and any valid category certificates (if applicable).

Step 5: Provide Date of Birth Proof:

Ensure to include proof of your date of birth as required in the application.

Step 6: Payment:

  • Pay the application fee through the designated payment method.

Step 7: Download Application Form:

  • After payment, download the completed application form for your records.

Step 8: Updates and Notifications:

  • All status updates and messages will be sent to your registered email or mobile number.

Step 9: Single Application Form:

  • Remember to fill out only one application form, even if you wish to appear for more than one test paper.

  • Multiple applications from the same candidate will be rejected.

Institutions Accepting JAM Scores

  • IISc Bengaluru, IISERs, National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIEST Shibpur, and other CFTIs use the IIT JAM scores.

Exam Pattern Of JAM 2026

IIT JAM will be held as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 3 hours. The test will have three parts:

Section A: 30 MCQs carrying 01 mark each with negative marking.

Section B: 10 MSQs (Multiple Select Questions) without the negative marking.

C Section: It will have 20 NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions with no Negative Marking as well.

Candidates clearing the IIT JAM examination shall be eligible to apply for admission in any of the academic programmes available at IITs and IISc, subject to meeting the ‘minimum educational qualifications’ (MEQs), ‘eligibility requirements’ (ERs) in the respective QIPs of the academic programmes and any other additional eligibility conditions set by the institutes.
