What was the CLAT Answer Key Case?

The CLAT exams were conducted on 1st December 2024 in an offline mode. This exam is required to clear in order to get admissions in UG and PG law programs across 20+ National Law Universities in India.

  • Results Released Before the Date: The results for the UG and PG law courses were released 3 days before the scheduled date, and consequently the dates for the counselling process and selected candidates list were shifted as well.

  • Irregularities Found: Irregularities were found in 5 questions of the Set A paper of the UG exam. The court ordered CNLU to award marks to candidates who marked answer ‘C’ for question number 14 and to remove question number 100 from the evaluation process.

  • Petition Filed: Petitions were filed against the answer key (provisional) released by CNLU. The High Court addressed several petitions filed against the inaccuracies regarding the results released on 7th December.

  • Student’s Demand: It was requested by the candidates that the release of results and counseling process be postponed due to the inaccuracies in the answer key and irregularity in the examination process.

  • Delhi High Court’s Order: The Delhi High Court ordered the revision of the UG results due to irregularities in the provisional answer key. This issue was initially found in 2 questions in particular. The court assured the candidates that they will take all the measures necessary to ensure a fair and transparent results process.

  • New Merit List on 21st May: Due to several objections raised against the inaccuracies in the answer key and the results announced by NCLU, the court ordered the republication of the merit list within four weeks. The results and merit list are expected to be released by 21st May, 2025.
