Indian Institute of Technology Dhanbad, also known as IIT Dhanbad, is recognised as an Institute of Eminence (IoE) by the Government of India. It is located in Sardar Patel Nagar, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and was established in 1926 as the Indian School of Mines (ISM). IIT Dhanbad offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD, and Interdisciplinary programs across 17 departments, including Science, Technology, Management, and Humanities. 

The campus is spread across 218 acres and hosts facilities such as hostels, a library, labs, an activity centre, and a sports complex. IIT Dhanbad admissions 2025 are offer     ed for UG, PG, and PhD programs in 50+ specialisations related to Engineering, Science, Technology, Management, and Arts domains. The application process for M.Tech started on 20 March 2025, and the last date to fill out the application form was 19 April 2025. Some of the IIT Dhanbad flagship courses include B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), MBA, M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD. For admission to UG programs, students require a valid JEE Advanced rank and a minimum of 75% marks in 12th Grade, whereas PG courses require a minimum of 55% marks in graduation with a valid score in the GATE examination. Ph.D admissions are based on academic records, entrance exam scores, and interviews. 

Additionally, the approximate fee range for these courses lies between INR 1 Lakh and INR 4 Lakh per year. An application fee of INR 600 needs to be submitted by the candidate to apply for any program.

IIT Dhanbad Admission Eligibility Criteria 2025:

To get admission into IIT Dhanbad’s various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD, and Integrated programs, the following eligibility criteria must be fulfilled for the 2025 academic session: 

• A minimum percentage of 75% in 10+2 from a recognised board and a valid entrance exam score or rank is required for UG admissions. 

• Courses like B.Tech require a JEE Advanced score.

• For PG admission, candidates must have 60% marks in relevant subjects and a valid entrance exam score in state or national-level exams, such as CAT, GATE, IIT JAM, etc. 

• Admissions to PhD programs require a Master’s degree with 60% marks and GATE, NET, CAT, GMAT, DST-INSPIRE, or CSIR/UGC-JRF score.  

• For integrated courses, eligibility depends on the type of course, with a minimum of 60% in a relevant degree and subject from a recognised university. 

IIT Dhanbad’s Career Development Cell has maintained a strong placement record with an increasing number of placements every year. Statistics show that 90% of students get placed with the highest salary package of INR 83 LPA, and an average salary package of INR 15 LPA.
