The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced that the application process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 will start in the month of  July 2025, marking the beginning of an important phase for thousands of law aspirants across India. It is a national-level entrance exam that acts as an entry point to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by all 24 NLUs and many other affiliated institutions.

To be eligible for the UG program, applicants must have secured at least 45% marks in their Class 12 examinations (40% for SC/ST/PwD candidates). For the PG program, a minimum of 50% marks in an LLB degree is required, with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories. Students appearing for their qualifying exams in 2025 are also eligible to apply.

With over 3,000 UG and 1,000 PG seats up for grabs, CLAT remains one of the most competitive law entrance exams in the country. This year, the Consortium has introduced several new programs, including the addition of new programs such as the B.Sc. LL.B (Hons) in Cyber Security at NLIU Bhopal and increased intake at select NLUs. The Consortium has also emphasised inclusivity, with updated guidelines for candidates with benchmark disabilities and special accommodations for test-takers requiring assistance. 

Tips To Crack CLAT 2026

  • Get familiar with the five core sections: English, GK & Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Prioritise comprehension and concept-based questions.

  • Design a clear daily and weekly timetable. Balance time between weaker and stronger subjects, while finding room for revision and mock practice.

  • Build conceptual clarity and move beyond regular learning. Understand legal logic and reasoning. Strengthen your foundation using NCERTs and trusted CLAT prep guides.

  • Stay updated with daily current affairs by keeping up with newspapers and legal news, especially Supreme Court judgments and major national/international events.

  • Take full-length mock tests regularly. After each one, review your accuracy, timing, and common mistake patterns to fine-tune your strategy.

  • Train your mind & maintain consistency by reading through editorials and long articles. Take breaks, rest well, and prioritise mental wellness.
