IGNOU Launches BA in Home Science Under FYUP for July 2025 Session

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will start offering a new Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Home Science course from the July 2025 session as part of its Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). The course is being launched by the School of Continuing Education, designed to align with the changes in education introduced through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UGC's new curriculum and credit system.
A Multidisciplinary and Flexible Programme
The newly introduced Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Home Science is designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of core areas, including Human Development and Family Studies, Community Resource Management, Food and Nutrition, Extension and Communication, and Fabric and Apparel Sciences. The programme integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students for diverse career paths in sectors like nutrition, education, rural development, public health, and apparel design.
The course is available in both English and Hindi, and students can complete it in a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years, offering flexibility for working professionals and learners from varied backgrounds.
Multiple Exit Options and Career Pathways
In line with NEP 2020, the programme offers multiple exit options:
- After 1st Year: Undergraduate Certificate in Home Science
- After 2nd Year: Undergraduate Diploma in Home Science
- After 3rd Year: BA in Home Science
- After 4th Year: BA (Hons) in Home Science
Graduates of this programme will be equipped for roles such as Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), District Programme Officers, ICDS Supervisors, Teachers (TGT/PGT/PRT), Community Development Coordinators, Quality Control Personnel, Lecturers, and professionals in NGOs, fashion design, catering, childcare, and public welfare sectors.
Affordable and Accessible Education of the BA in Home Science
The annual fee for the programme is INR 5,000, which includes registration and development charges. Study materials will be provided in both print and digital formats, ensuring accessibility for learners across India. The course carries a total of 120 credits, and examinations will be conducted annually.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible, candidates must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent qualification. The admission window for the July 2025 session is currently open, and interested candidates can apply through ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
